Ana's taking the quiz. She reads the names off in disbelief.
"Zowie, Pilot Inspektor, Speck,...Apple? Who names their kid Apple?"
"Exactly, or Peaches Honeyblossum?"
"It's true?"
"I guess..."
"Bluebell Madonna...Omg...how do they come up with these names?"
Easy. They're celebrities.
Thankfully, we've passed the baby naming stage. In fact, Ana and I rank in the elite .0001% for having both baby names solidified two hours after finding out we're pregnant. I remember the conversation perfectly.
ANA: "Baby, guess what? I'm pregnant!!!!
PAPA: "Wow...(long pregnant pause)...really? You took the test?"
ANA: "Two of them. Positive and positive. Can you believe it? We have to think of a name!"
I didn't realize she meant: right.at.that.exact.moment.
But we prevailed. Translation: One less battle for later. Which is especially important, considering many couples are still hatching it out weeks before the baby's due.
"I'm so glad we got ours," I say confidently.
Ana looks up from her computer. "Actually..."
My heat sinks. "Don't tell me...You want Pilot Inspektor?"
She laughs. "I'm not so sure about Bryce anymore."
"But I thought you loved it."
"I do love it."
"You said: if it's a girl Sienna, a boy Bryce...It's what you wanted."
"I did. Just not any more."
Then, the famous words of every pregnant woman.
"I changed my mind."
Just like that the the baby name crumbles...
Choosing the Baby's Name
How did you come up with your baby's name? Unless you're a celebrity, it's an extremely important decision not to be taken lightly. Basically you're making a choice that's going to stick with them for the rest of their life....or at least until they're 18 and they legally change it.
With 100,001 baby names out there, seriously, how do you choose?
Fortunately, there's options:
Anyone guess the most popular baby name in Texas? (last update: 2006)
Answer: Jose.
Interesting, what about California? Survey says....
Daniel. Jose ranks 7th. Hmm. Not what I thought.
How about Kansas? (my hometown)
Answer: Jacob. Brian's not even in the top 100...
I find that incredibly hard to believe...especially when Hayden (#53), Kaden (#54), and Jayden (#61) beat me out.
Even Jesus (#89) got me beat. (You can't make this up if you try.)
