The Amazing Race
They say the journey of a 1,000 miles begins with a single footstep.
Fuck that. Give me a car. A FAST car. An Aston Martin, A Tesla Roadster, or an Audi R8. I'll get there in no time.
And that, my good readers, is where like many of you, I fail.
Today, our society is obsessed with speed and on demand satisfaction. We want it, and we want it now. Fast. Fast. Fast. Speed is the new consumption. We sprint ahead. Always craving what's next ignoring the now.
And I'm just as guilty as the rest.
Especially with my daughter.
I hear myself saying I can't wait until she sleeps more. I can't wait until she smiles. I can't wait until she talks. I can't wait until she doesn't cry anymore.
I can't wait.
I can't wait.
She's seven weeks old.
Funny thing is I was standing at Starbucks with a friend yesterday who has a 1 year old, and we saw a woman holding her baby. She couldn't have been more than twelve pounds. She'd probably just recently started holding her head up on her own. She was cute, adorable.
My friend looked at her and said "Awwwww...I wish my little one was a baby again. I can't remember her that small anymore."
No, my friend doesn't drive an Aston Martin.
But, perhaps, she could slow down. Perhaps we could all slow down.
And enjoy.
Maybe what I really need are a pair of these.
-- PAPA

We are an inpatient lot these days. People can't wait for Christmas so they get their stuff out earlier and earlier.
The Internet has made getting info at your fingertips even more amazing.
We just keep getting faster and faster...yet we still don't have enough time to do all we want. craziness.
I love that show, the Amazing Race. Just had to add that.
And I can't believe your baby is already seven weeks!

A pair of what Papa? I'm a little confused. There are pairs of a lot of interesting things in this video...

We all DO need to slow down, and we all DO need a pair of "these". Cool ad. Enjoy each phase with your daughter. You can never go back.

She's seven weeks old already?! That alone is the perfect example of how fast life is!
You'll spend her entire life wishing life slowed down. It's worth savoring the chance we get when it does.

I used to do the same thing. Sigh. Now I ask them if they wouldn't mind staying small forever.

What's that commercial/song - "I want it all, I want it all, I want it all! And I want it now!" I think that is a perfect slogan for the Boomer generation (and the generation following behind us). In some ways, it has taken us farther than our parents could have ever dreamed in terms of lifestyles and technology and such, but sometimes we need to step back and think...at what cost?
Enjoy every moment with that precious little gem. Whatever it is you wish she would get past today, you'll miss tomorrow.

For some reason, I couldn't see the video but you are so right. We all need to slow down and enjoy.

You must not rush her. Appreciate every little minute and every little step forward.
I used to yearn for the day that my little guy would just say Mama. Now every time I hear "Mom!" I think about when he couldn't. When you hear Mom! every 2 minutes or so........
cool shoes, by the way

Move as slowly as you can through this phase because one day, you will wake up and be where I am...with a 10 year old...wishing for just one moment to go back and see his sweet baby face again. Shit...I'm going to cry again...argh....

You want a pair of bootys? No, not the booties that your child would wear. :)
My "baby" is almost 11. Hold on to wee Sienna tight because you will blink tomorrow and she'll be graduated and ready to fly.

You can't help but rush the first. That is why you have to have more than one. By number three you are refusing to potty train them and pushing a binky even though they are almost three...shhhhh.

I can't believe she's 7 weeks old already! Next week she'll start dating.

Adidas is awesome! Love those tennies, always did.
As for the "I can't wait", it understandable. As overwhelming as being a parent is, you always want to see more, experience more, enjoy more. She'll get there soon enough. And then you'll look at her and go "she's so big! how did that happen?" ;-)
